Exploring New Opportunities at SHAD Canada

Now that students are settling into their classes, High Prairie School Division is pleased to share some of the exciting educational opportunities our students participated in over the summer.

Khloe Babiy, a Grade 11 student at Roland Michener Secondary School, attended SHAD Canada in Red Deer. For four weeks, Khloe joined high school students from across Canada at Red Deer Polytechnic for a hands-on program focused on science, entrepreneurship, and future career opportunities.

Participants completed design projects, took part in field trips, and heard from guest speakers, all while learning more about opportunities in these fields. Khloe’s group designed and coded an app that would help families make choices with a lower carbon footprint while also identifying the best deals for their grocery needs.

The program was supervised by university students, along with two professionals with PhDs who offered insight and expertise in their respective fields. Khloe appreciated the opportunity to spend time with like-minded people and said the experience helped her gain confidence. Living on campus in student housing for four weeks also contributed to a newfound sense of independence.
